A Moment of SilenceA day filled with Sound The sound of nature It envelopes me I am nature Nature is me The sounds fill my ears Birds singing, Cheep! Leaves rustling, Swish! Frogs, Crickets Croak! Chirp! The sounds fill my ears Bees work as they dip and dive on an invisible roller coaster, from flower to flower Bzzzz! Robins and crows fly from tree to tree, soaring through the air like jets Whoosh! The sounds fill my ears Suddenly, everything stops The wind stops blowing The birds stop chirping I no longer hear the sounds of nature The frogs, the crickets, The rustling of leaves A moment of silence I wonder why everything has stopped At first I am frantic and confused Then I realize the peacefulness around me My smile is as big as the sea I hope this will never end I am glad for this moment of silence The only reminder of life Is the sound of a lawn mower Somewhere in the distance I ignore it and return To my moment of serenity Immersed In a beautiful moment of silence Finally, in a split-second, Everything is back to normal I am snapped back to my yard And the sounds fill my ears once again Even though it is over, I will always remember My moment of silence |
Literary Elements:
The literary elements I used were....
Onomatopoeia - I used onomatopoeia in lines 2 and 3 to describe the sounds I heard in nature. For example: "Bzzz! Woosh! Chirp!" I used these to show the reader what I heard, so that they could connect to my poem better.
Repetition - I used repetition at the end of some lines. For example: The last line of stanzas 1 through 3 I wrote "The sounds fill my ears" and the last lines of stanzas 4 through 7 all talked about "a moment of silence." I used these to strees the meaning/theme of the poem and that I heard a change in the sounds in nature.
Personfication - I used personification in stanza three when I described how the bees fly when they work
Other literary elements- Kinesthetic Imagery, Auditory Imagery, Juxtaposition, Simile
